During this workshop Chiara Valtolina and Meredith ’t Hoen, both specialists of the American and European College of Emergency and Critical Care, will show and guide you through some of the most important procedures necessary to stabilise a critical emergency patient (cat and dog).

The workshop will be divided into a theoretical part where the different techniques will be presented, followed by a practical wetlab, where you will have the opportunity to practice these skills on cadavers.

For the focus of this wetlab we have opted for practical and feasible emergency techniques that could also be implemented in your everyday practice. We will discuss and practice how to perform a thoracentesis and place different types of chest drains; how to perform urinary catheterisation in both cats and dogs (female and males) and discuss techniques for relieving urinary obstruction; how to perform an emergency tracheostomy; how to perform a cut down on peripheral vessels; how to place a nasal oxygen catheter; and how to place intraosseous catheters in paediatric patients.  After completion of the workshop you will receive a certificate with 6 accreditation points.
