Medicijnvrije behandeloptie psychose, nationaal antipsychotica debat

Antipsychotica hebben vaak een rol bij de behandeling van psychose. Maar kan een behandeling zonder antipsychotica ook? Mag je bij psychose wettelijk kiezen voor behandeling zonder antipsychotica? Daarover gaat de conferentie Medicijnvrije behandeloptie psychose die PsychoseNet in samenwerking met stichting Sympopna 6 november organiseert.

The drug-free program in Bergen, Norway, wanted to enhance the user involvement in treatment of psychosis. The program focused on non-medicational treatment forms like IMR (Illness Management and Recovery), Music Therapy and IPS (Individual Placement and Support). These were available for all users, even though they wanted to use anti-psychotics.

The motivations for a user led survey was among other things to find out whether the users themselves noticed the change in treatment focus, and their thoughts on autonomy during treatment. The user survey consist of 29 semi-structural interviews with users and 8 with next-of-kin. All conducted during the three years of implementation of the program. 

A major finding is that all but two of the users is pleased by therapy sessions and find it useful. However, that does not mean all communications are in order: there are certain subjects it seems both user and therapist seem to avoid, and the subject of drug-free treatment especially seems not to be up for discussion for some of the users.
