BBAUM is a treatment concept made specifically to reduce behavioral and psychiatric symptoms in people with moderate to severe dementia. BBAUM was developed in 2008 from a clinical need of having a treatment to calm down a woman with severe dementia and an extremely restless and aggressive behavior besides severe psychiatric symptoms. BBAUM proved to be so effective that it’s used in many nursing homes in Denmark.

BBAUM is founded in a holistic, person-centered mindset based on theory by e.g. Roxendal, Merleau-Ponty, Antonovsky, Bowlby, Kohut and the neuropsychology.

In the BBAUM intervention one works in a bio-psycho-social resonance process for the purpose of strengthening the person’s self.

The BBAUM concept consists of an examination by analyzing the symptoms from a physical, physiological, psychological perspective. The treatment consists of touch made in a combination of deep pressure massage and gentle facilitation. The treatment effect is evaluated through observations and a 24 hours behavioral registration.
