This conference is organized for everyone with an interest in state-of-the-art clinical practice and the latest research of symptom and performance validity assessment. This meeting gives participants the opportunity to share experiences and knowledge, as well as to exchange on current issues related to symptom and performance validity assessment.

The program will cover a variety of topics in this field, including validity assessments on children, adolescents, and adults. Our program will consider issues of symptom and performance validity in various settings, such as educational institutes, psychiatric hospitals, neurological rehabilitation, and the forensic setting. Speakers will present their research and talk about their clinical experience from both the perspective of large scaled scientific research but also from the perspective of single-case studies. Although the majority of our renowned speakers are based in European countries, it is our honor to also welcome internationally renowned speakers from outside Europe.

There will be a preconference workshop organized in advance of the conference. This workshop will address problems and pitfalls in using instruments for symptom and performance validity assessment. This workshop is relevant for both clinicians and researchers and covers conceptual as well as methodological issues.

After participation in the SVA2019 the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the variety of settings in which symptom and performance validity is an issue, including educational institutes, psychiatric hospitals, neurological rehabilitation, and the forensic setting.
  • Describe and understand incentives (reasons) for noncredible symptom reporting and performance in children, adolescents, and (older) adults.
  • Evaluate the utility of a variety of instruments for symptom and performance validity assessment.
  • Compare and contrast the use of symptom and performance validity tests across Europe.
  • Highlight intercultural problems in symptom and performance validity assessment.
  • Consider pitfalls in the design of a reassessment after effort test failure.
  • Discuss consequences of forensic and clinical cases related to symptom and performance validity.
