Flexible Bronchoscopic Intubation (FBI) has become a mainstay of difficult airway management in awake, sedated, and anesthetized patients; its use and value is widely accepted and its role is recognized in guidelines for management of both anticipated and unanticipated difficult airways.Guidelines assume FBI to be a basic skill. Learning curves suggest that true expertise may only be achieved after 45 flexible intubations. Trainees, at the completion of their training, have been shown to have performed only a fraction of these numbers.
