Tot slot: The ultrasound tool
Already in 1997 Wolfgang Schmidt published on Color Doppler Ultra Sonography (CDUS) in the diagnosis of Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) in the NEJM. Today’s guidelines state that CDUS should be one of the first steps in the work up of GCA patients in daily clinical practice. A relative new kid on the block is CDUS of major salivary glands in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS). Esther Mossel will give a presentation on her most recent findings in pSS, and how ultrasound can be efficiently be applied to evaluate pSS. The last speaker Anneke Spoorenberg will present data on the musculoskeletal CDUS, which is an established tool for visualizing active synovial inflammation and structural changes like enthesophytes, calcifications and bone erosions, in spondylarthropathy in daily clinical practice and research .
